Shadow Puppets
Jun. 23rd, 2007 01:04 amJust got back from the Shadow Puppets screening.
*possible spoilers ahead*
My first impression is that it's what I expected it to be. It didn't have enough gore and sex to make it as a Hollywood horror flick, but it wasn't executed well enough to make it as a suspense/thriller flick. In other words, the screenplay was weak and the performances from the actors were not great. Tony Todd did well, the girl who played a crazy girl did well, Michael's brother Marc did a great job. I'm sad to say James was mediocre. And Jolene was just horrible. I think Michael did a good job as director, but he should not have written the screenplay. The story premise was interesting, but the dialog was bad. There were some lines that I hope were meant to be funny, but due to the timing in the scene and how they were delivered you just can't tell if he was actually serious and it's a horrible line or if it's a joke. And there are so many plot holes, and just actions in scenes that make no sense as to why that person would do that. And then the editing was not paced well at all. Things moved way too slow in the beginning. But editing issues are probably due to his inexperience and budget. All in all, it was not the worse film I've seen. I watch a lot of horror genre and actually watch those horrible B films on the sci-fi channel, so this film was an improvement. And once things started moving in the story and the pace picked up it was interesting. There's also a neat twist towards the end. I wouldn't highly recommend it, but you could watch worse. Just keep in mind, it was his first film out of school I believe and it was low budget so I guess you can't expect it to be one of the great thriller films of all time.
