Now for the James report. Except I forgot to add in the last report another reason I love Creation. This is from the email they send out to their volunteers.
ABSOLUTELY NO RUDENESS WILL BE TOLERATED. PLEASE TREAT EVERYONE WITH RESPECT, DIGNITY AND POLITENESS!! Please treat everyone as you would expect to be treated, no matter the response you receive from them. If you have a problem, find the nearest supervisor and they will handle it accordingly.
REMEMBER! YOU ARE NOT SECURITY! Do not touch anyone while handling issues. Do not promise or threaten any actions. Do not get involved in verbal altercations. Contact your Supervisor immediately!!!!
There are other organizers that really need to be sent such instructions. Seeing that in the email just made me smile, Creation really does know how to work things. It also explains why all the attendees loved to talk with the volunteers and I was asked several times if I would be working Las Vegas, and they almost seemed disappointed when I said no I wasn’t planning on it.
The downside to working the con was that I didn’t get to hang out with my friends. I saw them on and off throughout the weekend. When I wasn’t doing anything too busy, we’d chat a bit. But for the most part, didn’t see them much. I do think I won’t be volunteering at another Creation event that James attends. Maybe I’d just work the Friday if he does Saturday and Sunday as usual. Although I suppose he won’t be at the next Grand Slam since it will be the first weekend in May and that’s when he’s usually in the UK. So it should be safe to volunteer again for that one. Overall it was a fun, exhausting weekend. I got to see a lot of familiar faces I only get to see at these events and hopefully will see them again at Fangoria or some other future event.
